Past Perfect Tense

Digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu kejadian yang telah selesai ketika kejadian lain terjadi di masa lampau.

1.       Pola Kalimat

Rumus :  S + Had + Verb3 

2.       Fungsi

a.       Untuk menyatakan  suatu peristiwa yang terjadi sebelum peristiwa berikutnya muncul di waktu lampau.

Contoh :

- He went home after he had finished doing he work.

- The sun had set down before I was ready to go.

b.      Untuk menyatakan suatu peristiwa yang terjadi selama periode tertentu hingga peristiwa kedua terjadi pada waktu lampau.

Contoh :

- My father had saved up for six years before he bought a car.

c.       Untuk menyatakan kegiatan yang terjadi berulang-ulang sebelum peristiwa kedua muncul di waktu lampau.

Contoh :

- His friend had given him medicine for four days  before he took him to the dentist.

Pemakaian :

1.        Simple Past  after  Past Perfect

      S  + Verb2  After  S  + had + V3

        S.Past                    Past Perfect

Contoh :

-   The audience felt happy after they had seen the concert.

-   He went to bed after Maria had lock the door

2.    Past Perfect before Simple Past

        S + had + V3   before + S + V2

       Past Perfect                      S.Past

 

Contoh :

-          She had gone before we arrived

-          She had already swept the floor before her mother came home.
